Ryder Cup 2027: Luke Donald named Team Europe’s captain for Adare Manor and chases historic three-peat over Team USA

By Marko Tankosic

SME News Balkan. Luke Donald will attempt to make European golf history after being confirmed as Team Europe captain for a third consecutive Ryder Cup. The Englishman will lead his side into the 2027 contest at Adare Manor in Ireland, aiming to become the first European captain to win the trophy three times.

Donald has already etched his name into Ryder Cup folklore. He guided Team Europe to a commanding 16.5–11.5 victory over Team USA in Rome in 2023 before retaining the trophy on American soil in 2025 at Bethpage Black in New York. That triumph saw Europe overcome a fierce home crowd to seal a dramatic 15–13 win.

Back-to-Back Glory Puts Donald Among European Greats

By securing consecutive victories, Donald joined the legendary Tony Jacklin as the only European captains to achieve back-to-back Ryder Cup wins. He is also the first since Bernard Gallacher to captain Europe in three successive editions of the competition.

Team USA captain Keegan Bradley described Donald as “the best European Ryder Cup captain of all time” following Europe’s 2025 success, underlining the respect he commands on both sides of the Atlantic.

Eyes on a Historic Three-Peat in 2027

The 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor offers Donald the opportunity to defend the trophy once again on home soil. With Europe riding momentum from two high-pressure triumphs, expectations will be high for another strong performance in front of passionate Irish crowds.

Speaking after his reappointment, Donald admitted he initially believed his captaincy journey had reached its natural conclusion after the emotional victory in New York. However, he now sees an opportunity to add another chapter to his Ryder Cup legacy.

“This Ryder Cup captaincy journey has given me so much focus and purpose,” Donald said. “It’s a real privilege, and I’m certainly looking forward to another home Ryder Cup.”
