‘Numb’ Liam Rosenior rips into ‘unacceptable’ Chelsea players after latest defeat at Brighton – ‘Something has to change drastically’

SME News Balkan. Chelsea’s crisis deepened after a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, with head coach Liam Rosenior delivering a brutally honest assessment of his team’s performance.

The loss marks a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat without scoring for Chelsea—their worst league run since 1912—and piles mounting pressure on Rosenior, who only took charge in January following the dismissal of Enzo Maresca. Speaking after the match, Rosenior did not hide his frustration. He described the display as “nowhere near the levels,” criticizing every aspect of the team’s performance—from tactics and intensity to passion and professionalism.

Chelsea have now lost seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, with their only victory coming against lower-league side Port Vale in the FA Cup. Their poor form has severely dented hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, leaving them seven points behind Liverpool in fifth place.

Rosenior emphasized accountability, making it clear he could no longer defend his players. He stated that the performance did not represent the standards of the club or his expectations as manager, adding that significant changes are needed immediately. Chelsea’s attacking struggles were evident once again, particularly in the absence of key players Cole Palmer and João Pedro due to injury. Although there was slight improvement after halftime, the team failed to end their goal drought, while Brighton comfortably secured all three points.

Rosenior stressed that the defeat was not about tactics but about a lack of “desire, spirit, and courage,” qualities he believes were completely missing.

In a separate interview, he went even further, calling the performance “indefensible” and one of the most difficult moments of his managerial career. He criticized the team’s professionalism and warned that such displays would not be tolerated moving forward. Chelsea now turn their attention to the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United. The winner will face either Manchester City or Southampton in the final, offering a potential route to redemption amid an otherwise disappointing campaign.
